Concord over Kingswood 26-12.
The season opened with a tough loss for the Lancers, against a
larger home field competitor. The Lancers played their hearts
out, however, in what turned into a sunny hot afternoon. Their
version of “smashmouth football” was evident in repeated
punishing runs up the middle
and runs to the outside.
The Lancers had some good chances in the first half, but came up
short and were down 2 touchdowns at halftime. In the second half
they marched down the field and were intercepted on the 5 yard
line, which Concord ran back for a touchdown. The Lancers were
never able to overcome that.
Head coach John
Vatalaro was happy with the playing of his 15 veterans of the
Lancers football program, many with 4 years experience and
commented that his 8 new players added strength and depth to
this squad.
